DBE Master of Science in Design for the Built Environment


Course description

The degree program, newly established (AY 2015-16), offers a training program that leads students to the achievement of the Master of Science in Design for the Built Environment. The master degree aims to train a designer in emerging fields that express demand for advanced design skills according to sustainability. The degree program can enrol students in possession of three-year degrees in Industrial Design, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Architectural Sciences, Sciences Physical Planning, Urbanism, Landscape and Environmental Sciences and Building Techniques.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION
Students with a foreign bachelor degree or first degree or undergraduate degree in Industrial Design, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Architectural Sciences, Sciences Physical Planning, Urbanism, Landscape and Environmental Sciences and Building Techniques, from three or four years course, with at least 180 ECTS, corresponding to these Italian Academic Degree codes "L4; L07; L09; L17; L21; L23". It needs at least a B2 certified level of English knowledge. Students applications will be checked by an Admissions Committee.

FINAL EXAM
According with Italian Law (DM 270/04 art. 11 comma 5) the final exam dissertation consists of creating an original thesis which must be written by the student under the supervision of a Professor (tutor). This work must be individual and original.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
The Graduates in Design for the Built Environment can work as designer for enterprises, public administrations, or professionals. The main fields of work opportunities are exhibit design, retail design, interior design, sustainability design.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
The Master of Science in Design for the Built Environment aims to train designers who can fully understand different issues that affect the innovation process of the built environment towards the sustainability. The purpose of the program is to qualify a graduate who is equipped both from a design and from a management perspective. The objective is to create high profile professionals who are able to take part in the strategic and operational decision design driven, that focus on great innovation in complex markets.

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES
The Master of Science in Design for the Built Environment includes two distinct types of teachings, the first type consists of typical subjects of training in different fields of design (industrial design, interior design, urban design, Technological and Environmental Design for Built Spaces) training and is compulsory for all students, the second allows a choice among specific training courses with which students can complete their cultural and specific education through a range of proposed courses in fields like structures, history of art and design, management. The educational objectives in terms of learning outcomes are detailed in the following table.
